In July 2016, Peter Bassett was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 'with Academic Excellence' for his thesis Playing with Fire - the pursuit of a Wagner performance tradition in Adelaide in the decade 1995-2005, and factors impeding its realisation. Peter Bassett was closely involved with the Adelaide productions of the Ring of 1998 and Parsifal of 2001, and was Dramaturg and Artistic Administrator for the 2004 Adelaide Ring. He is a regular contributor to opera program books in Australia and overseas. He has published widely on Wagner’s works, recorded talks on the Ring for Decca, and has lectured in Europe, North America and throughout Australia and New Zealand. For two decades Peter served in the Australian Diplomatic Service. He was also Offical Secretary to two Governors of South Australia and Director of Projects in Arts South Australia. Since 2001 he has led 40 overseas tours for Renaissance Tours.
